Merry Christmas! My son's birthday was election day. A week before hand, he said it was exciting how the whole country was talking about getting out that day.(Get out the vote.) He was wondering what the whole country got him for his birthday, what was the secret surprise? He hoped for an Obama presidency.

I think one of the things that hurts most about the last eight years is we did it to ourselves, not once, but twice! By we, I don't mean you or me, him or her, personally, but WE as in We the People. People we know and trust in our day to day lives. People we live, laugh and love with. We allowed it to happen - and then did nothing immediate to change it.

It amazed me during the last 4 years how many Republicans I know complained about the administration - and didn't seem to understand they had the power to change it. What happened to censure? What happened to impeachment? What happened to treason?

I live in hope, as I always do. I live in hope that people learn from mistakes. I live in hope that attitudes can change. Right now I live in hope that they'll give this new president the reigns to make the changes I hope he can.

I live in hope.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I have felt the sentiment of your post so strongly over the past 8 years. I was in shock a lot of the time. I will join you in living in hope.

On the Bottomline Concert CD version of this song, Harry talks about the political season at that time. It is at the very end of the song. He talks about all the things politicians were telling the public that they could not do. This was recorded in 1980 right before his tragic death ( ... )

I knew this day would come eventually, but now that it's here... and it's Obama... it's surreal. A relief. Like taking a dump after a long bout of really bad constipation, but our collective toilet is so full of the stuff, I kinda wish we could go back 8 years and not eat all that cheese.

Or something like that.

Merry Obama Day!

When this all unfolded in the year 2000, I was vegan. The only way I could get through this mess was by eating cheese. Grin.

Merry Obama Eve!
