In roughly a weeks time I'm going to have a nice amount of disposable income. One of the things I want to spend this on is materials for a new chain project. However I need something that will challenge me, push my skill level. And just in general be kinda cool. Any sugestions ( Read more... )

Things that not only challenge creativity, and my technical skills. The best kind of project that can be adapted to many variations after the basics are learned. I know thats not at all specific but then thats why I'm polling friends.

Okay,you know those chain belts for gypsies? or those elaborate headresses? those, if done elaborately enough would be pretty cool. Or, and I saw this at the last MN ren faire, were leg and arm banglies, but they were... like from the knee to ankle and from elbow to first finger kinda deals. And TINY.

These are pretty small, delicate work. I dunno if you'd find that challenging or not. (I wanna figure out how to do 'em though. XD)

Oo! Can you give more websites? I needa do research!

Hmmm, you're the second person to sugest micro work. Looks like micro with semi-precious metals is going to be my direction.

not like the micro on the MAILLE site? ;cause that shit is insane. A chain smaller than your finger with a gazillion rings in it? Nuts. I don't mean that sorta thing, i just mean pretty.

I'm with Kerri on this, hand flowers and accessory stuff would be awesome. I have a book that has some pretty neat jewelry chains too.

When I was a kid I read a post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel about a guild of blacksmiths who hunted down and destroyed the last remnants of the AIs that had destroyed human civilization. The symbol of the guild was a full-persian chainmail circlet that fit around one's head like a crown. And it was the only thing that could keep out the Evil Mind Control Rays of the AIs.

I respectfully submit that you should set your skills to making some of those. It would be awesome. And great for fighting those pesky MC-ing Robo-Overlords!

We saw the new Underworld movie, where Sonya wears a long-sleeved fine-link chainmail dress under her regular dress. Josh and I both agreed that I want one.
