Bought an iPhone 6. It is much fun. I love the fingerprint id, particularly for buying apps. The camera functions are fun - I had a great time filming the kids in slow motion today. I have downloaded a gazillion apps that I will probably never use (all free) and I like the step counting etc - not sure how much data this will use though. Apparently ( Read more... )

I know I whinge about this a lot, but I kinda wish that I felt like the union was doing as much for me as it was the labor party. The latest AEU rag was a labor party ad. I'm not an ALP supporter and I don't feel that the union is doing anything for teachers in my position. I'm pretty close to closing my membership, because I don't feel like even the legal insurance is good value any more. For as long as they keep fighting to keep shitty 30 year teachers in jobs, do nothing about the massive influx of poor quality courses, and now contracts seem to be off the radar, then it feels like it's just a gang of insiders working together to keep each other employed and the ALP in power. One of the reasons I became a teacher was because it was a strong union but now it seems like they just care about fighting the Liberals, rather than fighting for teachers. I know you don't feel the same way, but I'm definitely not getting $14 a month value out of it. The union line seems to now be "vote labour and it will all be OK", but that's not true ( ... )

I'm not even a teacher and I was pissed of at the way the union handled the last pay dispute. Honestly, teachers as a collective have got the govt by the balls if they can find the backbone to stand together for long enough. Sersiouly, what is the govt going to do? Fire all the teachers for striking?

When the union were demanding 30% I was like "good on you, don't you settle for less", only to find out that in the end they caved in for 12.5% or whatever the fuck it was ,which was barely over what the govt was offering in the first place. The most ridiculous thing about the way it all panned out was that after months and months of turmoil and media coverage, when the deal was done, most teachers either didn't care or didn't understand how they'd been fucked over, and the whole issue just kind of fizzled into nothing.
