Trigger warnings: fat hatred, fat in politics, sarcasm, near incoherent rage.

Hey.

Hey, you know what group just doesn't get shit on enough? You know? Do you really? Well, I know who it is.

Fat kids. That's right. Fat kids, since they're still fat, clearly deserve to be singled out, bullied, harassed, and shat on even more. I mean, why don't they just get thin like all the good kids do? Are they trying to be drains on ( Read more... )

salkj fff :c granted she didn't word any of that very sensibly, and i wouldn't go so far as to blame the economy on obese children, but i definitely think it's important to draw attention to obesity as an issue, because it really is a serious problem as far as health care goes. there are just so many things that stem from obesity, like the increasing rate of diabetes and heart disease.

That's not much of an excuse. She's the First Lady, who has speechwriters and editors and things.

Or maybe they could start an intiative that doesn't single out anyone? All people, children especially, should be encouraged to eat more healthfully and get more movement in their lives. Instead, Let's Move focuses on the kids who already get bullied and shamed at school, at home, and by society at large.

alskd jWELL i'm not trying to make excuses for her giving a poorly-written speech, i'm just saying it is a real problem with lots of far-reaching effects, including economic ones among others, and it really does need attention.

This is an extremely touchy subject for me, can you tell?

But it's interesting. When 63% of our population is categorized as overweight or obese (according to an outdate and ineffectual measurement tool for which the standards were adjusted downward with little reason), why, then, did they just raise the life expectancy to 78? Shouldn't us fatties be dying off in waves by now?

Many of the health problems that are associated with fatness are not caused by fatness, but are problems for which fatness is a symptom. But like me, thousands of fat people don't go to doctors until there's absolutely no choice, because we're afraid of doctors only trying to treat the fat, not the actual problem. This has happened to me multiple times, and it's a big reason why I absolutely hate going to any medical professional ( ... )

Childhood obesity is affecting your workforces, too. I mean, studies show that obese children are less healthy and miss far more days of school on average. So for the parents of those kids, that can mean more tardiness, more early departures from work, and higher absenteeism to stay home to care for these kids.

good lord.
