I'm still alive. Do I still have readers?

Here is why I am not signing the "keep Sarah Palin off Discovery" petition going around: for one thing, I don't believe in censorship. Don't like it? Don't watch it. Perhaps more importantly, I hope that she will continue overexposing herself and the novelty will wear off and everyone will lose interest. And frankly, the ratings will speak much ( Read more... )

I'm not signing it because Internet petitions are pointless. Nobody with any credibility has ever taken an Internet petition seriously. If you really want to appeal to someone, taking the time to hand write a clear and poignant letter still makes the greatest impact.

Bipartisan unfocused rage. I get it, I'm a knee-jerk moderate myself.
By the way, something I've never understood; if they can put a grill around a table fan to keep children from losing their noses, why can't they put something around windmill blades to keep birds out?

I mean, I'm pretty dyed-in-the-wool liberal, but I'm irritated by self-serving hypocrisy. Sometimes I think it's just a problem rooted in our rhetoric. All our American rhetoric seems to be built on pathos these days, which isn't bad in and of itself, except logos is nowhere to be seen. So people can rationalize loopholes in their ethical codes only because they "feel" a certain way. Nostalgia for Cape Cod, or whatever. If we could make arguments that had something to do with our brains, in addition to our hearts, we could maybe talk to each other instead of yelling.

At least one reader. And I don't think there's a need to call for her not to be allowed on the air - if the market doesn't decide to let her show go off the air on its own, she'll almost inevitably quit it once she gets distracted by shiny objects again.
