“ Lu Han! Get this!”

“ What-“

“ Watch out!”

“ No!”

The corridor immediately fell silent as the glass window of west laboratorium shattered into pieces dramatically in slow motion like what they usually see in action movie. None made a move, all of them stoned on their position, eyes wide, mouth agape.

One.

Two.

Three.

“ Wu. Yi. Fan. Detention!”

Wu Fan tried his best to keep himself awake. He tapped his fingers on the desk, humming the song he’s listening through earphone. A recorded woman’s voice welcomed every people who walk past the door and thanking them for their visit as they take their leave. Wu Fan thought maybe students from Technic major would get new job to repair the machine since apparently many people came to library, the voice even hadn’t had chance to finish her line before another people came or gone.

Some girls approached his desk, giggling. “ Um, we want to borrow these.”

Wu Fan looked down at some fashion magazines placed in front of him. “ Sorry, but you can’t take out magazines.” He said with flat tone. He pointed the empty desks available at the reading area. “ You can read them here if you want.”

“ Ah okay, I see,” one of the girls nodded before they took nearest seats, eyes never left the new librarian.

Wu Fan sat back on his chair. He yawned. He looked around the place, making sure that everyone’s busy with their own business before decided to take a nap. A really long one.

It turned out being librarian wasn’t as bad as Wu Fan thought it would be. He liked it there, it’s cold and quiet, such a perfect place to take a nap after long hours sticking with business this, business that.

He’s folding his jacket as substitute for pillow when his eyes caught the most unexpected people walking past the door. His heart unusually flipped inside his chest. He automatically ducked his head, eyes following the boy who disappeared at the last section. Wu Fan tried to press his butt still on his chair. He’s occupied by his music, lost in his own world as usual when the boy appeared again about half an hour later, hands holding two thick books.

“ Uh, excuse me,”

Wu Fan bobbed his head, following the beat.

“ Sorry, excuse me,”

Wu Fan mouthed the lyrics with all his heart.

The boy decided to wait until might be the song end and the librarian didn’t like the now playing so he opened his eyes to change it. He looked startled -almost fell of his chair, iTouch tragically slipped and hit the desk rather loudly- and embarrassed at the same time finding there’s person standing there.

The boy pursed his lips. “ Sorry, didn’t mean to surprise you but-“

Wu Fan’s whole face burnt. He cleared his throat. “ Oh sorry about that.” He shook his head fast, cursing under his breath. “ So-uh, is there anything I can help you with?”

The boy nodded. He pointed the books. “ I want to borrow these,”

Wu Fan looked down.

Twilight. Fallen.

He signed the paper behind the book with amused feeling, before handing them back to the borrower.

“ So do you like music?” The boy asked abruptly.

Wu Fan blinked. “ Yes?”

“ Er, nothing. Thanks,” he waved his free hand awkwardly before made his way out of the library, leaving the librarian buried in nothing but regret.

“ Kid, wake up.”

Wu Fan lifted his face slowly. An old woman’s face showed in his focus seconds later.

“ Yes, Madam?”

“ Come here, help me arranging the books,” she gestured her hand to make Wu Fan followed her to the back area of library he didn’t even know exist. The boy stared at the tall, dusty shelves surrounding him, eyes wide.

“ Please arrange them based on alphabet and genre, okay?” Wu Fan didn’t had chance to complain, Madam Jung’s already nowhere to be seen in no time like a ghost. He shivered although he already wore his jacket. The place had that gloomy aura with unusual quietness and dim lights made it look like perfect setting for horror movie. Scary, indeed.

No, Wu Fan tried to shrug it off. Ghost doesn’t exist, he reminded himself. He finished the first shelf with sneezing as only companion. It turned out -after checking around- he’s the only one there. He was about climbing the ladder to move on to the higher part of second shelf when he heard that. It’s very faint sound, but his extraordinary hearing made him still manage to hear that. Steps. He gripped the ladder unknowingly, eyes swept the empty gap he’s standing on.

The steps sounded clearler and clearer as seconds passed together with Wu Fan’s heartbeats.

“ Aaaarghhhhh!”

Both screamed simultaneously. Wu Fan got his head hit by the ladder. The boy continued freaking out, immediately turning his heels, running for his life.

“ Wait it’s only me!” Wu Fan exclaimed.

“ Please don’t scream,” a raspy voice from behind his back stopped his rushing heartbeats all of a sudden. He turned his head slowly.

“ It’s li-“

“ Aaaaarrgghhhhhhhh!” Wu fan threw the ladder towards the ghost before following the boy out in speed of light.

“ Wu. Yi. Fan.  Tell me the most logical reason you have why you threw the freaking ladder towards Madam Ahn.”

“ I didn’t mean that, really. I was shock and it’s only instinct. She showed up out of nowhere!”

One.

Two.

Three.

“ Detention prolonged until next week.”

Wu Fan found himself again sat at his usual desk at the library the next day. Actually he didn’t mind it, as long as he’s placed there, the front area always has some people around and the lights’re bright.

“ Eh, excuse me,”

He didn’t need to lift his face to know whose voice that was. He stopped folding his jacket for a second before saying his line.

“ Is there anything I ca-“

This time it’s the boy who cleared his throat, cutting him. “ Uh, I want to return these,” he pushed the books forward.

“ Oh yes,” Wu Fan pretended to look busy with everything he found on his desk.

“ And sorry about yesterday, I didn’t mean to scream at you.”

“ I know, Madam Ahn scared me too.” Wu Fan’s chuckle disappeared in an instant as his eyes met with the boy’s. He was this near, talking to him. He should stop being a coward and make first move- the boy immediately tore his own look. Wu Fan could feel his heart sank to pit of his stomach, blood drained from his face.

“ Uh, yeah. Well then, thanks, bye.”

Even now the boy needed to rush out. Wu Fan couldn’t feel worse. He slumped back on his seat. He lazily took the books to sign them with another returning date.

He’s given two precious chances and he just let it slipped from his grasp that easily. The possibility of students from Music major to go to library was so small, they have nothing to do with books, he wouldn’t come back.

Park Chanyeol wouldn’t come back.

“ Excuse me, is there any remaining Fallen copy?”

Wu Fan lifted his face lazily. “ Yes, here.”

“ I want to borrow that then,”

Wu Fan nodded, taking the card from the new borrower. He opened the last page and he couldn’t believe himself he missed the most beautiful thing- a post-it note stuck at the bottom corner- before.

Hi :D

None understood why -unlike other students- Wu Yi Fan never been willing to miss his detention.
