Composting Fun

Composters are strange. A week or so ago I threw in some random rotten veggie matter, and now I have a forest of sprouts of... something. They look like bean sprouts, but I don't remember throwing out any pulses or seeds. Would they be safe to eat? They look delicious, and fresh sprouts are awesome

Ahh, the mystery sprouts! I'm always amazed by how many things seem to enjoy growing in a box without any light. I've never been brave enough to eat any of them, although I have no problem putting my compost on food plants.

I will attempt to shepherd joe to your place on sunday! I would also like to yoink Urban Geography, Odyssey, Suck, and any Harlan Ellison that hasn't been claimed yet.

The City of Vancouver has a compost hotline at 604-736-2250, though, you could ask them about sprouty goodness.

Also, "compost hotline" is one of the best concepts ever. COMPOST HOTLINE.

The best part is that the crazy lady who runs the demonstration garden/compost centre and answers the hotline has an actual Worm Lady superhero outfit. She only wears it for like, kids events, but still.

whoa yeah. one time squash started growing in a garden of ours a few years ago b/c we used compost dirt.
