We used to have a saying in my high school guard, "You can't spell lamé without L-A-M-E."
Sadly, this being our corps second year out, we don't own much in the way of our own equipment (everything from last year was borrowed, and we just bought our own rifles and sabres last month). Remember Tarheel Sun? The corps uses their old shakos. Our bugles are the ones Blue Devils used at finals last year. Real corps survive on used and borrowed equipment. Anyways, these silks were borrowed from some rinky-dink high school, and the ones the corps owns for our practice flags are two-sided flags (one a dull pink, the other a sparkly pink) that are both too heavy to use in a parade (the wind won't blow them) and outright ugly. We'll develop taste, just give us time ;)
Bah, guard is one of the few things that usually gets worse in college. Real college marchers march drum corps. You're near Carolina Crown (10th place last year at DCI, Division I finals), they are fantastic and have an AMAZING guard. Make time, it'd be worth it (and corps is in the summer, no school work in the way; you might say, "But I need to work a job," which is why I march a weekends-only Division III corps).
Anyways, hope life is treating you well. Nice hearing from you.
Still counting the days until my freshman 15. I think I'm at negative 210 days. I did gain 5lbs. since coming to college, I'm now a massive 130lbs. (and 5'10"). If I were anorexic or bulimic or such, it'd be more hilarious (because I consider mental illnesses a joke, just an excuse for weak-minded people to gain attention; they call me Mr. Sympathetic where I come from), but I just don't have a large appetite and (prepare to be disgusted), I excrete a goodly amount of waste for the food I eat. Yay.
