Whoo Dance Caliber! That was a most excellent evening activity. As for recommendations, I haven't done it myself but I've heard it working for a few people and I certainly think it would work for me if I ever bought the requiset equipment. I mean, it's fun, indoors, good exercise, and requires little in the way of setup. Plus no one has to see you in your goofy exercise getup. What more could anyone want?

DDR is quite fun, and definitely be good exercise. Freshman and Sophomore years Lily and I used to have a lot of fun playing DDR.

Now, alirose and lmccat prefer Pump (the Korean version of DDR) since they say it feels more natural. I've never actually played pump myself. (I haven't actually played any DDR since Spring. I know I should start again, but I just haven't brought myself to)

Also, as far as fun games with strange controllers go, Guitar Hero is number one!

My goal, now that I have both DDR and Guitar Hero, is to set up two TVs next to each other and learn how to play both at the same time.

Guitar Hero really does rock. :)

Wow. Good luck with that. I don't think I could ever manage that myself.

As far as exercise, unless you really get up to the super-fast advanced levels DDR doesn't give that good a workout. For an actual workout, you might consider looking at the Eyetoy Kinetic package which comes with the game and camera for $15 these days at Best Buy (I got it mostly for the "Oo! Fifteen-buck webcam!" impulse, but the software isn't too bad either). The downside is that you need a fair amount of space to be moving around as much as it needs you too.

If you do go with the DDR route, though (which I'd recommend regardless of exercise, just because it's DDR), I'd get a USB dance pad (like one from Red Octane) and then get all the DDR packages for Stepmania. Much more variety, no annoying announcers, and you can customize it and even make your own songs--there are already a lot of user-made ones out there too, and some of them are pretty good. You can even get your DDR on to Numa Numa. :)

Like jissa said, I much prefer PUMP IT UP. The motions are much more natural and it ends up feeling and looking much more dance like than DDR. And it is a great workout. You can get it for PS2 or decently fast computers. I LOOOOOVE it and I think you post has inspired me to play a little today. Good time.
