Kitty Litter

Has anyone used/tried the scoopable pine or grain litters? If so, what do you think about them compared to the normal clay? I have been thinking about switching over for odor and environmental reasons, plus, it would be nice to just flush it down the toilet and stop throwing it out with the trash.

The Crazy Cat Lady (aka MC) used Arm & Hammer pine stuff, but I never flushed it. It did cut down the smell, but with her maintaining a colony of 19-20, there was too much to flush.

The clay scooping stuff was advertised as flushable when it first came out, but that was apparently tested on Kittens instead of male cats with something to prove by pissing out enough to make a kitty litter baseball.

I remember flushing it down when I had ZenTurbo, and all it did was block up the toilet. Have not done it since a plumber told us to stop.

What did you think of it otherwise?

It smells nicer than the clay stuff when it's fresh, and there's less dust. It didn't seem to clump as well as the clay, but she mixed it with clay and there were 9 boxen of various size for 17 of the cats. (3 were isolated and had 2 boxen of their own.)

Adding to the strain was the fact that she tended to shake the scoop so much that the balls fell apart, and I could only get there once per week to give the boxen a thorough cleaning.

Flushable litter isn't. When I had cats I tried just about every brand that said it was, and it ended up costing me.
