Good-bye My Faithful Steed

I sold my truck this morning. Granted, this has been almost a year in the making, but also far overdue. So here some closing thoughts to a vehicle that will never leave my heart. I hope it serves its new master well.

I remember when I bought you back in April of 2001. I was so excited to get a vehicle that had almost three times the room and twice the power of my '91 Ford Ranger. I even twisted the arm of Ford Motor to have my grandmother's survivor's rights activated (which she was entitled to but no one else bothered to get) so I could legally get the 'Z' plan for you. On April 3, you were legally mine....a Ford F-150 in dark blue that had all I wanted: cap, running boards, a CD player, and a V6 engine that had LOTS of power! We went to a lot of places-North, South, East and West and even into the Great North of Canada. You helped me (and a few others) move into my house, haul my gear to numerous Renaissance Festivals, bring home loot from Gaiam, help family and friends pick up large items, and of course, get me where I needed to go. We went, oh we went for a bit over 100,000 miles.

Then came the surgery, and then high gas prices. I had to buy a smaller car to accommodate those needs. You sat there idle, wanting to move but the cost was too great. My commutes were increasing and you were far to costly to warrant casual driving, so you patiently waited for when I needed a workhorse. Sadly, those journeys were few and far between. Then the revelation in December came where I realized it was time to let you go to another. I agonized; I loved you, but to let you sit was not right. You needed to go to someone else who could use you more than I could.

It took me a lot longer than expected, but I got you prettied up and ready for sale. It took less than a day for someone else to find you and decide that you were the perfect vehicle. A fair price was negotiated, and a deposit was taken. The next morning, I had the paperwork ready for your new owner. I took one last look at your beautiful body and then watched you roll down the driveway driven by your new owner. A small tear rolled down my cheek. I hope you serve him well, as you did me. Remember this, I will never forget all the memories we created.

With the money, I paid off the VW, pay a couple bills off and possibly buy a new stove. The latter is sorely needed, given that my current one is older than I am.
