out into the world

Thanks to everyone who commented last entry... for the record, things are a little bit better, and I'm trying to take a few deep breaths and just kind of step back from what's happened. My emotions have been all out of whack for 48 hours, but they're slowly settling back into normalcy. I have homework to do; I can't waste time by freaking out ( ( Read more... )

You're in Washington, right? I know some of the fire spinning scene there and can probably find out where they have spin jams if you want.

Actually, that would be really really cool... I imagine it's probably getting a bit out-of-season (it's fucking COLD today), but it would be neat to meet people and practice more. Thanks. :)

The spin jams are every Tuesday in Alexandria at Lunar Larry's place: 4510 Kling Dr. (I've never been there, so I don't know any details about the location, sadly) Ask for Drex, tell him you're Greg and that I told you about the spin jam. Drex is mad cool (as are spinners in general) so you'll have no trouble fitting in. Have fun :)

(fyi, if you bring fuel, the etiquette is white gas or lamp oil only. No kerosene.)

I actually find that long walks do my mental state a LOT of good. Take a roaming walk, explore the city, wander in-and-out of shops and cafes, go on an adventure. You'll find something. :)

It's too cold! :P But I do walk a lot, though there's really only a couple neighborhoods that are a) easily accessible and b) nice to walk around. This city is waaayyy spread out, so that to get ANYWHERE it takes at least a 15-minute walk (and usually a bus and/or metro ride after that).

You might be good at gymnastics considering your body type, I think you could do the iron man pose on the rings, Olympic style. If you were to train like an Olympic gymnast you'd get very nicely toned.

I've thought about it... I think I'm too lanky to be a good gymnast, though. Probs I would have to pay a lot for a personal trainer. But I could do yoga, which at least would make me limber-er...?

When I was looking for things to do in NYC, I found meetup.com to be a great resource. I ended up finding a French conversation group, and a World Cinema Classics group, and a let's read Shakespeare aloud group. Of course, when one is a student, many of those needs are filled by fellow students, but there's a nice sort of regularity to meetup.com meetups, and there would definitely be some cool ones in DC.

Viki

PS: Can I have a Xmas card????

PPS: How is JH?
