The greatest thing Avatar did was provide an intellectual litmus test. If anyone admits to liking this movie for anything other than the dazzling effects, I know that I can safely ignore everything that they have to say intellectually.

Pocahontas, Dances with Wolves, Eden... all the same thing, really.

I know about unobtainium, but everywhere I've ever seen it, it was like saying "widget", just a filler term for (in this case) something generically really rare. When Giovanni Ribisi first said it, I laughed, thinking, oh hey, he's making a joke. And then... they just kept saying it... I don't know why that was a bigger deal to me than everything else, but there ya go.

Earplugs would have been totally welcome, except for the parts where I was trying to deduce the language. That's shits and giggles for linguists! :D
