Every so often I find myself staring at a blank entry page on LiveJournal, wondering if I really actually want to make a new post. I used to use this thing daily -- in fact, up to three times a day sometimes -- and now, I just find the whole thing slightly stupid, self indulgent and quite frankly, embarrassing

i know what you mean about not being able to look back at old entries and thinking about self indulgence. I'm a writer, and yesterday i started another blog strictly for my poetry, and i can't shake the feeling that the idea of this new blog is totally stupid and totally self indulgent. i feel like a pretentious prick. it's all "me me me" and it kinda sickens me. but things like LJ are a good way of seeing how you've grown, which is important. i understand not being able to cut it out of your life completely, i've thought about the same thing. you just have to do what's right for you i guess. hope you stick around, but if you don't, it's understandable.

That's a cool thought though -- the whole burning of the paper journal once a year to renew yourself thing. The idea of detailing a whole year's worth of events (especially bad or stressful stuff) and then burning it seems like an awesome way to purge and cleanse. Might try that.

In fact, it seems like a good idea to fill a journal up solely with bad things for the very purpose of destroying it. That's going on the "to do" list for 2010.

oh it's not so bad :) it's cool that you recorded much of your adolescence. that way you can never fool yourself about the way you were. plus, imagine showing it to your daughter someday! lol if you write here til you're 80 it could be like an awesome first hand memoir. idk, i like it.
