I love when a book is the basis for a beautiful film.

Memoirs Of A Geisha (which retroism and I saw tonight at my cinema) was utterly stunningly beautiful. It had a lot of faults and parts where it was disloyal to the original story, also some parts that you would have NEVER guessed what the hell was going on unless you knew about geisha or had read the ( Read more... )

I admit after seeing this movie, I was a bit disappointed, considering that I know most of everything about Geisha..the mistakes ticked me off a bit, but the movie was well done.

I wasn't too happy about their choices of actors since none were japanese...but ah well.

I wish they had kept straight to the book...because some parts were removed...and some parts were changed..it sort of angered me...

My Geisha obsession is way much I think that's why hehe.

A few were japanese.. Mother and Aunty and The Chairman and Nobu I believe are all japanese.. Chiyo-chan (as a child) was japanese...

I was annoyed at the casting of Zhang as a whole, because she LOOKS chinese >_<***

I loved Li Gong as Hatsumomo though, she's a really great actress, with a lot of prescence, and her features are decidedly more japanese than Zhang's XD

Apparently that was the first time she'd done English in a film, she learnt it for the film (by listening to Eminem).

Overall I really liked the film but I do agree that some parts you could only really follow if you had read the book first.
I wan't too keen on the casting of Michelle Yeoh though. I think she is looking too old for the part she played.

Cool film though. Gonna be buying that when it comes out. :D
