Photos of Kensington Festival of Lights 2006

Finally got around to reducing the size of some of the photos of the Solstice festival in Kensington.  Our connection at home has also been whacked - so I felt very lucky that I was able to finally ftp these up.  A few of them were lurking on my hard drive since last week, waiting to get out...

There are a few plays performed on the rooftops around ( Read more... )

I think you would have loved taking photos with me. I thought about you as i was doing it. So much to shoot. Bit of a real trick though since it was full dark. Some of them came out too flashy. Some of them didn't work out as abstracts... though those light streaks never bother me. Strangely, I like some of the people shots - something i don't usually do. My fav shot turned out to be the bonfire.... funny given how short I am, and the fact that I had to hold the camera up and focus... and hope. The flip-out rotate screen on the G6 was a savior.

Yay! I agree, that sort of thing does look like the exact sort of thing that I would enjoy. I've found some things somewhat similar around here (although on a much smaller scale) around here that I think we might try next year.

I was thinking about buying a more.... well "digital" camera for my next toy. I have the nice digital SLR and a basic point and shoot but some of the fancy and fun digitals with the swivel screens and ... buttons .. look like a lot of fun.

I think I'll leave now before I abuse more punctuation.

hehehe
I'm looking at Digital SLRs. What do you have?

I would so highly reccomend the Canon G6 that I'm almost tripping over myself to tell you about it. :D There aren't a huge lot of choices for cameras with a flip out/rotate screen... There are the Canon S-series and the earlier Canon G-series and the Pro's. I think the S3 isn't too bad. nice zoom. bit noisier than what you might be accoustomed too.

I cannot say how much i like the flip screen. You can get some mad angled shots. That last shot ... i had to hold it waaaay up... there were about 8 people infront of me. I zoomed with one finger, focused and took the shot while holding it so far about my head my neck cramped. but i could still "see the shot".

they don't come on the market (the g6) too often though.

Way cool. :D

The Crushing of the Clowns

LMAO! Won't see me arguing with it. Clowns scare the crap out of me.

clowns are freaky. I almost wanted to show the face of that clown full sized so people can tell she looks like she's screaming. I think she got caught up and suddenly found herself in the middle of the stilts and costumes and freaked out.

I like that first pic the best. The Sacrifice of the Sun!

And I love the political kids. That's awesome.
