Ch-ch-check out my new default. Dani and Charlie are getting festive.
iTunes Fic Challenge
Rules:
1. Pick your favorite fandom
2. Put iTunes on shuffle
3. Write a drabble for the first ten songs.
4. You can only write for the duration of the song.
I only did 5, and I did not stop writing when the song ended. I did, however, refrain from skipping any songs, including a rap song that popped up, so give me a break.
All Bones, Booth/Brennan, PG. I've missed writing for these two. ♥
1.
Death Cab for Cutie - 405
red wine and the cigarettes, hide your bad habits underneath the patio
She's driving, her destination unknown.
She finds herself pulling onto his street without even realizing what she's doing. She does not want to be here.
But something had drawn her away from her desk where she'd been immersed in the world of Kathy and Andy, out of her apartment and into the dark DC night. Her dashboard confirms what she'd been thinking: it's late.
She glances up at his window. The lights are off. He has Parker today, she remembers.
She takes a deep breath, her foot pressing down on the accelerator. She cruises home and laments the environmental damage caused by her pointless trip.
2.
Rilo Kiley - The Good That Won't Come Out
all the good that won't come out of me, and all the stupid lies I hide behind
We are who we choose to be.
She refuses to allow history to define her. Her studies focus on the past, but she chooses to live her life in the present, where people are real, and the decisions that she makes alters the course of action, determines outcomes. She derives control in the chaos of the everyday.
Tonight, she finds herself away from the present, away from what she knows to be true. She doubts her beliefs.
"We choose our emotions," she insists. "We are not…" She brings the bottle of beer to her lips and takes a long, urgent drink. "We are not slaves to the way we feel."
Booth is watching her with calm eyes. "What do you feel?"
Unsafe, she wants to say. Unsafe because she's back in the trunk, and it's dark, and she can't breathe, and it just slipped from my hand I'm sorry please let me out I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry. Instead, she says, "I feel fine," and drinks some more beer.
He offers a small smile and touches her arm. "You're safe with me, Bones."
3.
Tsunami Bomb - Safety Song
the timing was just right, nowhere to go but forward now
She approaches him, feeling the soft earth dent under her shoes. She doesn't know how to do this.
He's watching the tombstone, his attention away from his surroundings.
"Booth." She clears her throat.
He startles, his body tensing. He turns. "Bones, I-" His eyebrows knit together in confusion. "What're you doing here?"
She steps closer. "This is important to you," she explains softly, surprised by her own words. She turns to face Edward Parker's tombstone.
For a moment, he remains still, forgetting, for a brief moment, where he is. His heart jumps when he feels the contours of her hand slide tentatively into his. He looks down at their fingers, loosely intertwined.
"Th-thanks, Bones."
She squeezes his hand in reply.
4.
Michelle Branch - Leap of Faith
and it's a leap of faith, when you believe there's someone out there
Plainly: She believes in him. When she'd been buried in her car underneath all those layers of dirt, Hodgins had spoken of faith, and no, she'd rationalized. No. Faith is irrational and blinding. She'd made a calculated assessment of their conditions, basing her evaluation largely on Booth competencies and his ability to perform his job, as well as the intelligence of the rest of the people she worked with. Angela. Cam. Zack. Statistically speaking, she and Hodgins were in very good hands. The team would find a way to save them.
But the words she wished to speak were: He'd find a way to her, and she wouldn't give up because she knew he wouldn't either. And that? Well, maybe that was faith.
The game of semantics is cruel and merciless.

Fort Minor - Feel Like Home
and everywhere I go I see another person like me, trying to make it all feel like home
Before Brennan met Booth, the Jeffersonian was her favorite place in DC. There, she studied bones, and it kept her occupied and fulfilled.
A month after Brennan met Booth, her favorite place in DC became Wong Foo's. There, she spent time with him, and it kept her happy and relaxed. She still loved the Jeffersonian, and her work remained of utmost importance, but she felt her life shifting. There was work, and there was Booth.
In the years following, other places - the Royal Diner, the Founding Fathers - fought for and earned her affection. She ate and drank with him, and they discussed cases and shared their lives with each other. She taught him about the skeletal system, and he taught her about everything she'd never had enough evidence to believe.
It wasn't until she began sharing his bed that she understood: home had nothing to do with location.
