Heh. The subject like is what we call it in Seattle when it snows 3 inches and the whole city is thrown into a frenzy. That's what I lived with for the last ten years. Keep this in mind when you read this post

Better safe than dead, injured, or doing the same to someone else.
I'd go a little at a time, like trying the car out in a parking lot. You will have to get used to it eventually, so I'd learn slowly and not feel bad about taking your boss up on the offer to stay home.
It's amazing to hear this different perspective. People here (myself included) are just bitching because it's 30 degrees outside. There is no snow at all.
You probably can only play the "I'm from Seattle" card for so long, but I agree, it's better you play it safe than drive in conditions you aren't used to.
Elyse- you moved here- you'd better get used to this and learn how to drive in it. Yeah- this was a pretty bad one- we get a lot of storms but generally the driving conditions are safer than this.
This was really the first significant snowfall of the season, and it always takes the area a time or two to get used to driving in snow, and snow removal in general.
It was a good "middle of the road" snowfall, with the unusual thing being that the snow hit squarely during the morning commute. Usually when we get seven inches it hits mid-afternoon, or after the morning commute, and the plows get a good handle on it before the evening commute.
So yes, there will be other snowfalls that are as much or more, but the roads will be in better shape.
The best thing you can do is get yourself to an empty parking lot and practice maintaining control of your car. That and don't make any sudden moves, everything is gradual in ice and snow.
I am a pretty horrible driver in good weather, but I am awesome in the snow. I blame the Capital district for that.
Stephen calls me a "mudder" because I'm ONLY good in bad weather.
