Last few days spent in a daze waiting for it to cool down enough to be able to concentrate. Spent the morning hopping from iced-coffee to iced-coffee. This is the closest thing to boredom I ever feel (apart from being at w**k) I dislike this inability to "do". I loathe being forced into inactivity - and when it does cool down enough to think I ( Read more... )

No, everyone fell asleep and I ended up cooking for a few hours...shame.

Was kind of hoping to see you, but I'm surrounded by three art-antithispathists (yes I know it's not a word), so... *frown*

Meet up soon? When you're not w**king.

The Matisse/Picasso exhibition almost made me get the plane to London. Well almost...if I had the money that is.
I make the meanest iced-coffee in the world, you should come and try sometime.

I remember when I first saw Picasso's work in real life I said to the person I was with: God he is such a macho isn't he?
It seems like every brushstroke is forceful and dominant. Therefor I always had a love/hate relationship with Picasso.
Matisse also had a similar relationship with Picasso: he kept an eye on his work but the 2 never really liked eachother very much. Matisse once said: "compared to Picasso, my paintings look as if it was painted by a girl". I love Matisse for that.

It's the masculinity in picassos work that appeals to me, or at least thats one of the things that I admire. I don’t think I see his misogyny in the paintings quite as much but I might be blind to it.

It’s always a problem, do you judge art on what you know of the artists nature? Case in point: I adore the work of Albert Speer - but the man himself and the reasons behind his work are about as morally corrupt as is possible to get. Despite this I am always awed by the beauty of his design.

No not at all. In fact it was much later that I saw a documentary about Picasso. Sometimes it can't be ruled out though: when I was at a Rembrandt exhibition and saw a few of his early etches I thought I could see what a short-tempered person he was because many were unfinsihed and scratched viciously, as if he was angry. Many of his earlier etches show a real struggle with the materials and his impatience shows through. That however could be pure projection. I try to stay objective as much as I can. I am in awe with Lenie Riefenstahl's film about the Third Reich, that doesn't mean I appreciate her possible associations with the nazi regime. I see it as a piece of amazing art.

Aaaah Picasso/Matisse at 4 am! That's so what I wanted to do, but it costs a bomb. Instead we ended up at the horrible Dev spending about twice as much. And I'm still *runk so I'll leave.

First time I've been there in a while, and not my choice. Mind you, it was cheaper than I remembered, in more ways than one.

Matisse/Picasso is well worth a visit, regardless of which one of them you prefer.... Having said that, I did go for free to a private viewing (co-hosted with my father, as his company is the official sponsor) where champagne and canapes were thrown in as well. You wouldn't have to queue at 4am though.

I missed out on the private view as I was working all night, which is a shame as it would have been odd had you recognised me. Not that you would have unless I had the sock monkey in front of my face.
