Asking around for feedback on this picture (because even thought it’s just a learning sketch I’d like to get it right) and all I’ve got from RL people is “the leaning tower of middle earth” and “it’s a bit phallic isn’t it?”.

So I thought I’d try here - any constructive criticism most gratefully received.

Moving the view so that the tower's off centre may detract from the 'tower of middle earth' feeling. It's the main focal point, centring it makes it a bit heavy .. depending on whether that's the feel you want. Also, how high is it - having the bottom half less misty will make it seem 'more accessable'.

It reminds me of communist China.

That's interesting because the hills are very much inspired by scotland but the tower is eastern in design. I've scaled it down for the latest version so perhaps it wont dominate the mood so much.

thanks.

I like the assymetry. And I like that the hill is vivid, because if I were to be near the hill, I would see it very clearly. I'm a bit near-sighted and the picture looks kind of how I see things -- clear up close, foggy/dissolving in the distance. Maybe make a series and keep them as a series? Just an idea. I like it very much. Haunting sort of, but in daylight.

What isn't phallic? Can't be too self-conscious about Freudian implications, I.
