Following a question from tvor I’ve typed out the 30 “cinemas best kept secrets” list from Empire. I don’t agree with it - but if anyone has a lost classic they want to point me at - be my guest.
Aw brilliant, thanks for taking the time out to type it!!! I've seen about 8 or 10 but i agree, some of them don't seem like "lost classics" to me or best kept secrets kinds of movies. But then over here across the pond some of them were bigger releases i guess than over there. China Syndrome comes to mind. Some of them have very intriguing titles or stars, such as Build MY Gallows High and Witchfinder General! Vincent Price! It just HAS to be class! Two other people mentioned Labrynth and Mosquito Coast, both movies i quite liked. I own a copy of Labyrinth but haven't seen MC in years. It really does qualify though. Another one i always found interesting was The Beguiled, an American Civil War era movie with Clint Eastwood, one of the few of his i like. He's an injured soldier, liar, manipulator etc. and a girls' school takes him in. I did a review of it over the summer so it's on my lj somewhere.

No prob'
If you like The Beguiled (rightly so - creepy film.) have you seen The Shootist, another Don Seigel "non" cowboy movie that has a whole lot going for it.
Mathew Hopkins - Witchfinder general is an english civil war film so would do well on a double bill with The Beguiled...
Will look for it. And did you really? after mulling it over for a few days i now want to see it again. When i first finished i rolled my eyes and thought. ok that was weird. But the more i thought about it, the more i need to see it again.
