[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]

Name: Albert Heinrich / 004
Age: physically 30; chronologically over 70/80
Gender: Male
Fandom: Cyborg 009 (2001 anime)
Timeline: Post episode 18, after the blizzard.
History: This is a fairly obscure series; Wikipedia doesn't have too much to say, and a lot of it is an undefined mishmash of all the Cyborg 009 canons (counting the manga and all the the animes, there are 4 total). So here's a bit of history based on the 2001 anime:

The general story of Cyborg 009 centers around a group of 9 people who were kidnapped or otherwise taken in against their will by an organization called Black Ghost, who turned them into prototype cyborg weapons. Black Ghost is an "evil" organization, headed by Skull, which is committed to producing weapons for war and inciting wars themselves. The cyborgs eventually escaped from Black Ghost and teamed up against the organization.

004 was one of the four earliest cyborgs created sometime after WWII (the actual time may vary, time frames are rather vague in this series). He was taken directly after he attempted to cross the Berlin Wall with his fiancee Hilda, in which she was killed and he was mortally wounded. Because of complications due to underdeveloped technology, the first four cyborgs were cryogenically frozen for decades until technology improved. The rest of the cyborgs were created in the time that those four were frozen, with the most recent being 009 (which is where the anime begins). Because of this, 001 through 004 are all much older than they appear.

From there the cyborgs alternated between fighting Black Ghost and trying to live peacefully. However, Black Ghost continually sent forces to destroy them, including even newer cyborg 'brothers' (0010 through 0013). Eventually the cyborgs took the fight to Skull's doorstep, supposedly destroying him and putting an end to Black Ghost once and for all.

With the final battle over, now the cyborgs have gone their separate ways to try and live normal lives again... for now.

AND THEN SUDDENLY DEATH CITY but that part isn't canon.

Character Personality: At a glance, Albert may appear stoic and distant, but not too far underneath that is a warm and friendly personality. He's been through some very rough life-changing experiences that have hardened his heart, but despite that he always tries his best to look on the bright side of life. He's able to do this because of his fellow cyborgs, friends who have become like a family to him, and he values friendship and family above most things. Because of his generally calm and rational way of looking at things, along with a touch of optimism, he sometimes serves as a mediator within the cyborgs' group (or at least for 002 when he's feeling extra hotheaded), as well as an unofficial leader.

However, his stoic surface isn't just a mask. He harbors bitterness and contempt for war and Black Ghost, and what they've both done to him and what they continue to do to others. But because he has been made into a weapon, and someone has to fight, he continues to do so- but he wants to fight to end wars, not start them. 004 is a skilled and efficient fighter and he isn't afraid nor unwilling to make use of his abilities, but just like the rest of the cyborgs, he is tired of fighting and just wants peace.

Although he is never officially called a leader, he has the skills of one. He is observant and logical with his observations, whether that means noticing ahead of time when something is amiss or deducing an enemy's plan. He is strong-willed, but level-headed about it.He often takes charge of the group and/or makes strategic decisions in combat, making plans and giving orders to the other cyborgs. He tries to help and save who he can, but he acknowledges that there are limits to what can be done when it comes to saving lives.

He is not made of stone, however; his judgment can become humanly flawed and he can be riled up if the right buttons are pushed. It isn't always clear on the surface, but he constantly struggles with having a body that is mostly machine and weapon, and he tries to hold onto his humanity without getting killed for it, or worse, getting someone close to him killed. He doesn't allow himself to be as openly naive and trusting as 009, who he sometimes clashes with because of that- stubborn naivety is one of the things that can push him to anger, especially if it puts anyone in danger. However, as much as he tries to remain objective when it comes to the enemy, there are times when he can't help but sympathize with them, even if he knows it may get him killed- to feel nothing would be to let go of his humanity and become only a weapon, and that is the last thing he wants.

Character Abilities: Physically, 004 is mostly metal and machine (out of the nine cyborgs, he has had the most physical modifications) and is a walking arsenal. His right hand serves as a machine gun that fires bullets from his fingertips, his knees shoot missiles that are stored in his thighs, and there is a retractable blade in his left hand that can cut through most anything. He also has a radio built into his head that allows him to communicate long-distance with the other cyborgs and vice versa. Aside from that, he is also stronger, faster, and much more resilient than a normal human (his body is resistant to most average-powered gunfire, to give an idea), he has no body temperature, and he can survive without breathing for a much longer period of time than a normal human. He is also a quick learner, and due to his modifications has the knowledge and ability to operate any vehicle or military machinery and handle most any military weaponry. He is fairly resistant to extreme temperatures, or at least much more so than a human. He is also less susceptible to poisons/toxins/illness etc. than the other cyborgs due to having the least organic parts.

On a less superhuman note, in canon it's said that 008 is the best when it comes to actual strategic field combat- I would say that 004 is the next closest. Although canon doesn't say whether or not he had previous military experience before becoming a cyborg, he at least acts like he does, and as I said in his personality, he often acts as a leader and makes strategic choices in combat.

Character Weaknesses: Emotionally, the death of his fiancee Hilda and the life they should have had together still weighs on him, which sometimes affects the way he empathizes with others. There was at least one time that he hesitated to kill an enemy because he sympathized with their desire to see their family again, and it led to potentially disastrous results. Psychologically, his own body. He barely had the will left to live when Black Ghost turned him into a cyborg, and although he regained his optimism, that he is mostly a weapon often bothers him more than he lets on. He fears the idea of losing his humanity and becoming nothing but a weapon. Because of this, he isn't very fond of or trusting of machines, or at least ones meant to serve as weapons or take the place of something a human should be able to do. Physically he can take quite a beating, but he isn't unbreakable, and he is susceptible enough to electrical attacks and anything else that would be more effective on machinery than a human. Also, since his body is mostly machine, most all injuries he does manage to sustain wouldn't heal on their own and would have to be repaired.

[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]

- Already talked to Celi about his built-in weaponry; his body will remain the same, but his weapon parts will cease to function (he won't be able to fire bullets or missiles even with ammunition), and his retractable hand blade will be removed entirely.

- His enhanced strength etc. will fit the above-average human spectrum, though the resistances (resilience, less susceptibility to toxins, resistance to high/low temperatures) afforded him by having a body made mostly of metal will remain the same, because... well, it's metal.

- I don't think he'll lose any weaknesses, but since he already has trouble with being a weapon/machine, having the weapon part taken away but remaining a cyborg might cause him some grief. That may only be temporary, however.

[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Meister: Again, 004 is something of a leader. Despite being a walking weapon himself, he doesn't just rely on that to win battles. I believe he would be a much better fighter and partner wielding a weapon than being wielded himself, and he would know much better than to treat his partner as anything but an equal.

Meister Ability: My potential choices, in convenient list form:

- Calming Wavelength, because of his leadership ability (specifically being able to keep his head while under pressure and convince those around him to do the same), as well as his generally cool demeanor and ability to handle his own emotions while still sparing warmth for others.

- Soul Distract, because I could see him using it strategically to draw fire in fights/missions when working with others, and he isn't afraid to put himself in the line of fire.

- Soul Leader, because of his strong leadership skills and tendencies.

[ SAMPLES ]

First Person:

Good morning. I was recently informed of the situation we all share, here.

[There is a noticeable pause before his tone grows more serious.]

...I am willing to offer my assistance in bringing an end to this war. I am not saying I want to fight. In fact, I would prefer not to. However, I understand that fighting will be, at times, unavoidable. On that note, it would appear that BREW has decided I'm Meister material.

[He chuckles quietly, and a little bitterly... but then his voice lightens.]

Death City. That's a pretty bleak name for such a lively-looking place, don't you think?

Third Person:

He should have expected something like this to happen. Some part of him knew he couldn't go back to life as it used to be, not for long.

But he'd been hoping it wouldn't end quite this soon.

The change in scenery was sudden and the room was large and far too crowded for comfort. He reached for his blaster on reflex, only to find it missing- and then he remembered he hadn't been wearing it in the first place. Why would he need to? Black Ghost was done for, he didn't have to fight anymore. Not that he was ever truly without a weapon; he stopped just short of tugging off the glove concealing his right hand when he finally took a closer look at just who was around him. He was surrounded by people, and... other beings, all strangers, all looking as out of place as he probably did. More importantly, none of them seemed intent on attacking him. Judging by the number of confused faces, he wasn't the only one to suddenly find himself in an unfamiliar chamber. Mass kidnapping? Could this be the work of Black Ghost...? No, that was impossible. At least, he wanted to believe so. He scanned his surroundings, perplexed. It would be best to find out what was happening quickly, before anyone (or anything) could get the jump on him-

In an unexpectedly easy turn of events, the projected image of a red-haired man popped up without warning and proceeded to tell him exactly what he wanted to know. Some details would require more clarification later, but he latched on to the important ones. He was here because of something called BREW, people were being made into something called meisters- and weapons, and he was expected to fight in a war before he could return home. He clenched his jaw against a flare of anger, and for a blinding moment he wondered if Black Ghost was behind this after all, and he'd fallen right back into their hands. He stood rigidly in place, quietly allowing his anger to subside. He needed to think this through with a clear head. Black ghost or no, judging by the lack of weaponry anywhere in sight he was under no immediate threat. He mentally sorted through what his priorities should be. The radio silence in his head wasn't a good sign, but maybe that had been disabled. His first priority would be to get in contact with the others, see if they were in the same boat. Then, learn the full details of the situation from someone in charge- that red-haired man would be a good starting point. Only then would he decide what to do about this war.
