On my way to Africa.

I'm going to be in Africa for the next three weeks. SuperShuttle insisted on getting me to the airport three hours before my flight even though the first flight is domestic, so I have some time to think (sleepily) about what I might find there, and to worry about whether I've forgotten to pack anything essential ( Read more... )

Did you make sure you get any shots that you need for the areas you're going to be in? We also followed the politics - for example, we were going to be driving through Zimbabwe and knew there was a gas shortage in the country before we got there so we were careful to have a stash of gas in the trunk of the car before we crossed into Zimbabwe in case if we got stranded trying to cross through because we might not be able to get gas otherwise. Also, at the border people who look official will come up to your car and try to get you to buy visas or whatever..ignore them. It's a good idea to look at the Lonely Planet Thorntree forums online for the areas that you're going to be in and see if there's anything you should watch out for.
