I was listening to Fresh Air on NPR today. Mark Wahlberg was being interviewed about The Departed, Entourage, and his career in general. As the conversation progressed, Mark kept referencing a music career. As this line of conversation developed I was shocked to learn that Mark was Marky Mark of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. You didn't know that was Marky Mark? Brother of Donnie Wahlberg, who shot Bruce Willis in The Sixth Sense? We need to talk more.

truly. To be honest, Marky Mark seemed like knowledge I previous had possessed and discarded. the New Kids thing really threw me.

and while i didn't make the connection with Donnie, it's really the music/movie genre switching that got me.

and yes, we need to talk more.

I see so little TV that I'm surprised I've actually seen a commercial you reference, but I agree with the chase commercial. I hadn't thought it through--I just knew it was creepy, but once you point it out, I completely agree. And it explains why I didn't like the commercial.

it took some repetition to pin down the exact source of my unease. but i have that sort of time. and i watch a lot of TV and lack tivo (and cable), so i watch commercials. I still think they do a better job than polling data at reflecting societal values etc. Though that's increasingly not true, as the modern trend in advertising is to appeal to niche markets, and not society in general.
