Apparently I'm fired. Go me. Back to trying to apply for things and finding that no, i am not actually capable of getting a job without it being handed to me because I know someone.

Well, that sucks. Sadly, that's the way a lot of jobs go: It's not just what you know, but who you know that matters.

Was it downsizing? And if you need some help maybe I can help you comb through jobs and help you with your resume some.

Also! Did they say you can use them as references? Because if so then you need to, and if they didn't say ask them. Also you need to sell yourself and your skills :c No putting yourself down!
