"At the start of the 21st century, an interplanetary war broke out. Earth's ecosystem was severely damaged, and humanity was forced to flee the planet. In several planets of this new society, things that "disturb the heart" like music and art are forbidden. 48 years later, the legendary idol group AKB48 is resurrected as AKB0048. Labeled as terrorists, they must take up arms to defend their careers and their fans. The story follows a group of young hopefuls as they train to become the next generation of AKB0048."

I don't even know how idols, anti-entertainment bans, guns and mechs work together, but goddamned if it isn't great. I would like some of the drugs that Kawamori smokes to come up with theses things. Oh, God... another full week til the next episode. ;-;

FYI:
AKB48 (A-Ki-Ba[hara]) is a J-pop Idol group who is enormously popular in Japan. I think they have like, 64 memebers in groups of 16 that perform in shifts at a theater dedicated to the group. Group memebers take on the names of their predecessors, so new memebers are continually undergoing training and will take over if a current member quits or retires. The show's seiyuus and songs are all sung by members of the group.

Kawamori has designed/directed/produced shows like Macross, Escaflowne and Aquarion.
