So my trip last week ran the gamut from utterly enjoyable to god-get-me-out-of-here.
After hanging with the family Thursday and Friday, I was treated to the company of
fizzingkneazle and her friend Theresa at Borders for the release of the much anticipated Harry Potter book. We joked, ate delicious apples, and survived the line not once, but twice, as I lacked the foresight to preorder at that location. But all in all, quite the wonderful evening.
Saturday and Sunday were devoted to Foy's wedding. Saturday was rehearsal, which eventually went off well, and was followed by dinner at the Irish pub. There we all enjoyed food and plenty of beer, as the latter was open bar and therefore, unlimited in quanity. I was treated to Guiness for the first time, which, despite being a little heavy, has a very smooth and pleasant taste. After dinner the groomsmen received their gifts, which were 5 different styles of swords, each intended to match the personailty of the recipient. I was given the gift of ninja swords, because I am good at blending in and appearing out of nowhere when least expected, or something along those lines.
Saturday night I stopped by the party of my friend Kevin, and felt thoroughly back in college (or what I imagine college was like for those who went to house parties). There were kegs and jello shots and I played beer pong for the first time in my life, and I can now retire with a perfect lifetime 2-0 record. Kevin has given up his ambition to teach, so for now he works at CompUSA, and allowed me generous use of his discount, for which I am grateful.
On Sunday, the wedding itself went quite well, notwithstanding the 4 inch problem foy had with his pants. (They had fit him the day before and did some altering, very poorly it seems). But everyone had a good time and the
Firefly themed recption was interesting, though I still know nothing about the show in question. But no one can ever begrudge a reception with an open bar. (Despite all the alcohol in this entry so far, I must confess I drank more in these two days than I had in probably at least the combined previous 6 months.)
Monday I went to dinner with my friend Natalia and her fiance at
Buca di Beppo, a lovely Italian, family-style restaurant with delicious, Italian, family-style food. We finished off with ice cream from Maggie Moo's, which certainly holds up well against Coldstone. I hadn't seen Natalia since my wedding, so it was nice to catch up on life, law school (she is a rising 2L at UDM), and any dish we had on old classmates and their marriages, engagements, pregnancies, and the like.
Tuesday was more family time before flying back to my lively wife and getting back into the North Carolina thing. All in all, a good trip, for I got to see a lot of people I hadn't in quite a long time (though I still couldn't see everyone I would have liked), and it was interesting to see how people had changed, and, how they hadn't. The end.
There may be pictures to follow of the preceding, we will see.
After part three of the JKR interview comes out today, I will try to give some of my thoughts on HBP.
