Dad got engaged to his non-jewish girlfriend. They are planning to tie the noose, I mean knot in September of next year. Not exactly unexpected, but still not pleased.

Anyone wishing to say Mazal tov can keep their comments to themselves, thank you.

I don't know this situation well enough to make any real contribution to the discussion, but I do have a few questions. How old is your father and his fiance? If you have siblings, how old are they? Is there any plan on having more children in this marriage? Is your father divorced or is he a widower? Does his fiance have any children of her own and how old are they?

He is 47, she is a similar age. I am an only child, so no siblings. I doubt that Dad & Lynn will be having any more children, considering their ages. My parents are divorced (I feel like a Baruch Hashem is inappropriate, but yes, thank G-d my dad isn't a widower) She has two kids, a son who is 16-18 and a daughter who is 18-20 (I don't know exactly, but those are the ballpark figures). They often live with their father in NH, but also occassionally find crash space with their mother.

My father went through a similar thing with his father. My father has two younger brothers. I believe the youngest had made it to college when my grandfather married a non-Jewish woman. My grandmother had died when my father was in college and his youngest brother was in high school. There was no question of more children. My step-grandmother was a woman who had never married, and I believe both of them were older than your father and his fiance are ( ... )
