I was paging through the World Literature book in English class t'other day, and ended up in the Japanese literature section.  Now, don't get me wrong, I think Japanese poetry kicks ass, but I avoid that section because it's mostly drama, as in no and kabuki drama.  "Alas for the Lord of Hinjo's quest!" gets very old after the ninth time you see it
