Holy smokes. If it makes you feel any better, though, I'm pretty sure that's about the same amount I'll be spending on mine when it's all said and done. However, that's because our company insurance policy doesn't cover orthodontia. Chumps.
My company insurance policy has a $1,000 annual limit. :(
I'm beginning to think that dental insurance in general tends to suck. It's not like medical insurance, it seems primarily concerned with maintenance costs, rather than any actual treatment costs.
Yeah, it's a terribly disappointing realization - especially after my experience with my back surgery and my lovely medical insurance. I got very excited about insurance, and using it for things, only to discover it doesn't really apply to dental. :)
Wow. That's a lot of money. Dental care is so expensive. Its no wonder that so many people, especially in this state, go without decent care. It is completely rediculous that even with dental insurance you have to pay that much to get what you need. I also think you look fine the way you are, but I understand that there is a lot of stigma with dental care and teeth appearance. And anything that makes you feel more comfortable in your skin is probably a good thing. I was talking with a dentist I know who works in public health recently at a work thing and he was telling me that a dental student that did an internship with him is now making $400,000 a year working in a private practice. It totally blows me away. $400,000 a year while people have pain and infections and crumbling teeth they can't afford to get fixed. I totally know that running a dental clinic is expensive, but who needs to make $400,000 a year?
It really is absurd. :( I am very grateful that I'm able (kinda!) to afford this, and I feel f'cking terrible for everyone who can't - someone seriously needs to overhaul the whole concept of dental insurance.
As I too have found in the world of dentistry, you could buy several arms and legs for the cost of one procedure. Or, like 6 eyes done with Lasik. If you have six eyes.
I believe it! Once the braces come off in two years or so, I think I'll have spent about $8k in four years.
Ouch.
Still, it's worth it, right?
I love my dental insurance, since it covers all the basic preventative things. It does help out in this, too, giving me a $1500 lifetime credit towards the braces...not a lot, but that's like a year of payments I don't have to make. I just hope I don't need any more crowns...$500 a pop after the insurance sort of sucks.
