Back in the 50's, when I was in school, the "standard"(unpublished) was 5 hrs per week for science including math, english and history/social studies.
It was a 5 period day, 1 hour each period, 1 period per day for each of the 3 subjects, 5 days a week. The other 2 periods each day were for electives.

I remember there were standards revised by the feds during the Clinton administration and I was kinda shocked by how low they were but I don't remember the numbers now. I believe the math/science was in the minutes per week.

What are they doing to them now? Worse no doubt!

Another remembrance. I hadda hire a tutor for my kids to teach them the multiplication tables in grade school because Freeman Schools claimed they didn't have enough time to do it.

Now they don't have time for history and social studies. Zak can only identify about 10 states. He does not know the sides of the Civil War. It's awful!

Awful and sad. The recent generations have no idea about most the history of their country and all they know about the founding fathers is that they were slave owners.

All they know about the Constitution is what the news told them or what SCOTUS decisions say it means.

Truly awful and sad!!!
