SERIOUSLY, WHY?...

They're finally doing an official Batman and Doc Savage crossover, and Brian Azzarello is writing it? WHY?

What particularly is wrong with Azz? I can think of a few possible answers, but 'm curious as to what yours are.

I'm not sure exactly where to start, really. I mean, I don't HATE him... it's just, okay... 100 bullets is awesome, when it comes to his DC work, especially his batwork, I'm just... errr... uh... Meh with a side of headdesk. There usually are some good elements in it, but... He's trying so HARD to be hardboiled, and it's the wrong KIND of hardboiled, and for something like Bats and Doc I'd want... Well, somebody I could think of when I think FUN PULPY FUN! And... Azzarello is not even near the list of people I would ever think of when I think of that.

I think it's that he's only ever interested in telling Brian Azzarello stories, regardless of whether or not they are in keeping with character integrity. Take JOKER, which was... um... interesting. I wouldn't call it "bad!" it's just... not... right. Yeah.

Have you read DOCTOR THIRTEEN? That's the sole instance of Azz writing anything as pure ridiculous fun (not to mention a seriously bold fuck-you to DC at that point). If only he could channel that style a bit, but alas, I doubt he will.
