Bacon!

Please tell me, why are there so many words for "bacon" in Chinese?
咸肉
熏肉
腊肉
腌肉
培根
腌猪肉
Do they all ~really~ mean bacon, what are their differences and which one do you use?

Going to second this. When in doubt, especially for a really easy concept like this, check ZH:Wikipedia and its talk pages. We work long and hard to reflect actual usage. :P

in Taiwan we always use "培根"

well, "mean" is a relative concept, 培根 for example is a phonetic imitation of "bacon". I've never used any other word for it, though. :)

培根 is probably the way to go, at least for Taiwan. It almost feels like saying "pagan," though. x0
