Most common Mandarin vocabulary

Does anyone know a good online list of the most common 500 or 1,000 words in Mandarin? Trying to do some intensive vocab practice, and want to focus it on stuff that's actually going to be used in day-to-day conversation.

I was given this one Christmas. It's pretty comprehensive: goes through the 500 most common characters, with associated meanings and words. Good book!

I bookmarked this page a while ago, but never really got around to studying it, so idk how good it is... but you can give it a shot. It has 3000 words, though. :P

Is a good website for Chinese learning. They have a "flashcard" feature for learning characters.
I also like "Chinese in a flash" by Tuttle.
Volume 1 has about 500 characters and 2000 compounds. I'm working my way through them :P.
