How to say "Excuse me" on the phone?

Sep 14, 2010 14:42

I was wondering if there is a polite and concise way to ask someone in Chinese to repeat himself while on the phone. Something akin to "Excuse me?" or "Sorry?". I always find myself saying either “什麼?” (which sounds rude) or something like “對不起,我沒聽清楚,可以再説一遍嗎?” (which is much too long and inconvenient).

Thanks in advance!

You can just shorten the last phrase to something like "對不起, 你可以再説一遍嗎?" or even "你可以再説一遍嗎" and just follow it with a thank you.

Unfortunately if you want any shorter, it's going to sound a little bit informal.

But maybe someone else has a better way, that's just what I tend to do/say.

I'd say the same as surrel only I don't ask 你可以。。。 I just say 请。。。 and occasionally drop in a 听不懂 by way of explanation for my repeated request for repeats.

Yes I know, but I sometimes have to say that a lot in one conversation and I get the feeling the other person will get impatient. But thanks for your help!

I usually use "對不起,請再說?" It's sufficiently polite, and gets the point across.

I'll be sure to remember that one next time. Thanks!
