How to Draw! Guide

Aug 28, 2006 19:43

I never liked art books that supposedly instructed you on how to draw. Many of them would proceed to demonstrate in four to five steps how to draw a good picture--and yet, even though it seemed simple, in practice it sure wasn't simple at all. Kind of like when my geometry teacher would demonstrate a proof, then make us deduct the answer to a ( Read more... )

ahhhhahaha gosh darn there was a time i thought i actually exceed you in drawing faces, but i guess that time has long passed. it actually looks quite good eric. but still face the BASH!!!!! the thing that jumps out at me is the ear.... it looks too high. shouldn't the top of the ear matches the corner of the eye and the bottom of the year matches the bottom of the nose? and the shading on the neck should be significantly darker. ok i guess that's it for now... i'll go draw... *tear drop*

i know. i use the same rules too (bottom matches nostrils, top with eyes/eyebrows). however, that's how high it is on the source picture! my best guess is that the model's ears are located higher than average, and that the photograph's angle is from above her (in that case, i didn't convey that angle well).

the shading on the neck should be significantly darker.

You're right, but let me quote myself:

"And you may notice my laziness in drawing everything below the chin." xD I did a sloppy job on everything besides the face because I considered it secondary...

Interesting to see how you do it. I normally don't draw all 4 steps (unless it's for an illustration project).

"things fall apart the center cannot hold."

mere anarchy is loosed upon the world. LOLYARITE i wish don't resist Yeats d00d.

the falcon cannot hear the falconer because it's deaf

I don't quite get what you mean by draw all 4 steps. I took a picture after I finished each "step". Well I normally combine steps 2, 3, and 4 together; but I decided to try splitting them up to see if it might make it easier to draw.

I always feel that way when I read books that supposedly teach "how to draw blah-and-blah". Which was pretty much the point of this post... make fun of how easy it supposedly is, but at least give you guys something to look at.

Still, maybe you should give a good try at making "magic" sometime... it might turn out well!

WHAT RANDY SAID. YOU HAVE MAGIC IN YOUR FINGER TIPS. YOU'RE LIKE CYRIL, EXCEPT WITH DRAWINGS AND SKETCHES. D:

Hum...I skip the first step completely unless I feel like I want to draw guidelines...which happened like three times total. Hehe I usually just start with hair, or maybe eyes, or maybe the face, depends on how lucky I feel.

which is exactly why i suggest using guidelines... trying to draw everything at once has a larger margin of error.
