Tonight I have witnessed the equivalent of a lynch mob forming online. A man I respect very much, my friend Todd Freiberger, was visciously verbally attacked by a bunch of LJ users. If they had given even a little time to think about what Todd said, been charitable, and given him a chance to elaborate/respond, this shameful BS could have been ( Read more... )

are you talking about the thing on his journal?
people stoop to insulting other people's character when they have nothing better to retaliate with. just look at the presidential elections ;-)
and, did you just say totalitarians and the mentally deficient don't belong at the university, or their tactics don't? because i'm seeing a growing trend in admissions (stop me if you think i'm wrong): a)warm body, b)check clears the bank. the lack of meeting criteria (a) is not always a deal breaker.

but, here's a question - do you think it happened because todd has never been shy about the fact that he will stand up and debate these things?
he can keep up with the best of em when it comes to these kinds of things, so maybe that's why they felt they could even start something with him. (i am by no means implying he welcomes or deserves it)

my dunno, this is why i try to maintain a boring life. works better for me.

He's more so referring to a post one of said commenters made on her own journal, and the incredible railroading I received from her friends (a few of which have met me, but clearly don't like me).

A boring life, eh? I'm gonna go with Mill on this one:

"Life has a certain flavor for those who have fought and risked all that the sheltered and protected can never experience." -J.S. Mill
