Last Friday came and went as if it were any other day. I still don't quite know what to do with myself now that I don't need to be studying all day. What do people do for fun nowadays anyway?
I started season 3 of Veronica Mars. It's always entertaining to catch cross-pollination of actors. Funny enough, I spent all of Sunday in bed watching tv. Well, that's not so funny, really. But I did have a moment where I thought to myself what. am I doing? Is this seriously what you're going to be doing all day? And then a feeling of elation bubbled up and I realized that yes, I can do this all day and there's no responsibility or obligation that pulls me anywhere else. It was awesome.
Today, I went berry picking with friends. We drove out to
Kruger Farm and spent a couple of hours in the fields getting strawberries and raspberries. The strawberries are just beyond their peak time, so most of the plants were picked over and there are a lot of rotting ones laying around. However, the ones we did get are sooooooo sweet and delicious. Nothing quite like a belly full of fruit. We also got a couple cartons of raspberries. We're going to be berry'd out these next few days.
Friday night I had a great time dancing and hula hooping it up with my fellow classmates at the End of the Year Party. It's great to see my teachers and laugh and not worry and just let loose. For the dessert potluck, we brought cherries I picked from my yard, and those went quickly. The yield sucks this year, but whatever. Can't have everything.
Saturday morning, bright and early, my school got tickets to see the new
Bodyworld exihibit at OMSI. We spent some 3 hours in there perusing all the bodies. Our western medicine teachers (anatomy & physiology, western pathology) were there to guide us through the exhibit. The Anatomy professor was so patient and led a group through each body. It feels good to be able to follow my teacher's discussion on a particular system. It's also very cool to be able to see the muscles and soft tissue and identify most of them. I guess I managed to learn some stuff. What's more amazing than the bodies themselves is how they manage to get them in those positions and keep them there without any strings or visible structures keeping them stable. There's one in particular where the person is going over a hurdle and there seriously is nothing attaching this person to the hurdle and there are no supports holding him up. Craziness. Also, all lungs have speckles. If you live in an industrialized area, you will inevitably end up inhaling irritants. Secondhand smoke is irritating to the lungs, so it probably will cause as many problems as inhaling directly. Plus, enlarged hearts just aren't cool. I saw one the size of a cantalope.
