A Slug's Life
The hike into the crags may seem soothing...
But it's a dangerous place to be a slug!
...Then we watched the snake swallow the slug whole, but I didn't photograph that part... You can picture the lump moving its way along the snake's belly.
The reason I even had time to grab my camera to shoot this is because there was a first, failed, attack. It seems the slug squirted whatever poison they carry as their only defense mechanism into the snake's mouth, causing it to gag and writhe in an attempt to disgorge it. Eventually, the snake succeeded in doing so and reposed itself for a second attack.
Oh, and I knew it was in vain, but I was rooting for the slug... How could you not?
