I visited the Bahamas official site, the consulate office site, read the dispatches on safety from the Dept. of State, and figured out various things about my visit. No, I don't think I'm over-reacting on safety when groups of 8 tourists have been mugged at gunpoint in broad daylight on the main shopping drag, when the murder rate hit an all-time

I went to Nassau last summer, so before the violence on the Queen's Staircase. I never felt afraid, and the people I met were great, but my mother's knees didn't enjoy our shore excursion. I'd say let your knee rest in Nassau and save your energy for the other stuff--Nassau is easier to get to than those other ports.
