Re the Drupal solution: I've implemented Drupal's forum solution in various iterations several times now. It's pretty good but you'd have to be willing to get in and get your hands dirty on the CSS to make it look nice. Out of the box it's more-or-less the same as vBulletin, but kind of clunky-looking (it's mostly theme-agnostic and fits into the main content column whether set or fluid).
IMO the only reason to consider going to Drupal would be to extend the Story-Games site in interesting ways. Like, storing files. Searchable content. Customizable user profiles that propagate into individual posts and site entries. Personal blogs. You know, all the web 2.0 stuff.
If you have time to research, take a gander at Drupal's Organic Groups module family -- just search through Modules and you'll find a whole OG (original gangsta!) section. Very interesting. Might be of use but only if you're seriously interested in changing the fundamentals of S-G.
I'm skeptical about splitting the party. I was going "eh, I probably wouldn't read both sites." But I'm not even sure if I would keep reading either of them.

ETA: also important in this: ask yourself very clearly what you want to serve you don't think is well served by other places. That's what you'll want to make sure you do differently.
