Get This Party Started

Jun 20, 2005 15:19

My friends are having a party this weekend, and I've been charged with the music. Now is your chance to prove you love me more than Maud by suggesting your favorite party songs.

I'm not sure how this proves you love me more than Maud (or why you would), but it does. So, suggest away!!

I'm *so* not a party person. Maud's theme - "My job sucks, my life sucks, I must leave this job before I lose my soul, I wanna cry" was one I could understand and assist her with songs.
Your theme ... I don't know what type of music people play at parties. An elegant dinner party, I suppose I'd play classic so there is nice background music that doesn't overwhelm the conversation. A ghetto dance party - lots of RAP and R&B. An orgy - stuff with naughty lyrics, a driving beat, or maybe some Bolero. A pool party - maybe some beach tunes and fun, upbeat stuff.

Yes, I should've been more specific in the original post about the type of party. It's your run-of-the-mill house party. Food. Music. Drinking. There will be a keg, if that helps to clarify. No dinner. No pool. No ghetto. There isn't an orgy planned as far as I know, but who knows where the evening will lead.

I'm looking for fun, upbeat stuff. Think Madonna and Mr. Roboto.

Think Madonna and Mr. Roboto.
Hmmm. Sounds like the party denizens will be closer to my age group than Maud's. Fun 80s stuff, some more modern stuff too that is rather fun and would mix with that type of stuff. I'll scan my MP3s when I get home.

Domo arigato Mr. Roboto ... I haven't listened to that in a while.

Thanks, man. Although, said denizens *will* be closer to Maud's age, you can never go wrong with fun 80s stuff.

Domo arigato indeed! It's quite disturbing how much I love that song. Not only is it quite catchy, it's didactic.

Kylie Minogue. Obviously.

Duran Duran is good for parties, but that might be leaning too '80s. Surprisingly (or not), Patsy Cline is actually a nice party twist, especially if people are tired of the pop music. ABBA's always a wise choice.

Yeah. That's all I've got. You've been to my place. You've seen that I'm bad with the music.

For an ABBA twist, there is the album ABBA-esque by Erasure. It is an updated take on some ABBA classics. I think I have it somewhere on my CD rack.

You'll need multiple CDs. You might reserve one as a slower, "party is winding down, 70% of the people have left, the remaining people are trying to sober up a bit before driving home."

If some people want to dance, you might want a dance CD, too.

I think I'm going to take my laptop and steal some speakers from work so I can skip the CD burning step. I will, however, make multiple playlists on my iTunes for the various stages of the party.

Of course Kylie's on the list. That's a given. Duran Duran and ABBA are both excellent suggestions. I might have to pass on the Patsy Cline, though. I'm trying to keep the tunes below a twang factor 4.

I'm running into a problem. As I write down songs I realize that it is becoming "Music to fuck by" instead of party music and I have to backtrack. This has happened several times. I think my subconscious might be telling me something. :)

Get your mind out of the gutter, lugonn. But, hey, that's not a bad playlist to have either. You never know what's going to happen at a party.

Nope - already removed most of them. But I kept in two songs in honor of your recent post that spawned fic.
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
George Michael - Freedom 90 [which seems to be his response to the incident so is even more appropriate than I want your sex].
Eh - I might remove "Freedom 90". Not very party-oriented.

BTW - Cheeky has sent me multiple messages encouraging me to finish the story I ghost wrote for you. So it probably wasn't as bad as I thought, but that's usually a safe assumption since I always loathe my own writing more than others do.

I think you should definitely finish the story no matter the actual or self-assumed quality and then send it to me. I don't usually request porn, but since my name was on it at least for a little while, I think I'll make an exception.

Okay - it was much longer at one time, but I kept trimming since it takes forever to upload from home. Downloads are fast, but uploads take forever - eh, such is the nature of cable modem ( ... )

Also, any that you already have?
I threw in the P!nk song since it was the title of your post, but perhaps you already have it.
