I would have no idea what to do in your case.. we've learned a few hard lesson where I work at in the past few years.. I think my bosses have gotten to be real hardasses with some of the clients, and they document the shit out of every conversation they have with clients, and always try to make sure it's through email so that there's some record. We don't give them anything more than was in our original agreement, and if they want something else added on later, then it's billed separately.

We're dealing with one pain-in-the-ass client right now, he's a really funny, flamboyantly gay buyer for a company in the rail industry, and he always has very specific ideas about what he wants his site to look like. The only problem is, the specific ideas change every week when he sees a different site that he likes. We've been working on his site since January.. but he is paying for all of the new layouts, so that's cool with us.

Where I work, it's always the small clients that cause the most headache.

They were actually referred to me by our Dark friend, Screaming Mute. I contacted them in January, offering my services and they replied back saying they're trying to do the site themselves using FrontPage, but they're not getting very far.

Just over a month later they called me up and we started outlining the project.

It's now been over a month and we're still not finished. They wanted the registration system up weeks ago but there's been so many delays since they keep changing the specs on us and arguing over things.

I'm hoping I should be done with them after this weekend, but I'm sure there will be at least another week of BS after they decide they want to change things or don't like something about the registration form. :(
