Last night's Messiah was strangely uneventful. The audience produced its usual counterpoint of catarrhitic coughing during "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth," but was otherwise unafflicted with distracting bodily emanations, at least as far as I could tell from the chorus.

The current theory here is that he was some sort of businessman visiting Toronto, and a client gave him the tickets. But he's a sad person who has no friends in the city, but did not want to be sitting there all alone. It didn't occur to him that he could ask the nice receptionist at his client's office, or maybe he did, but she declined the opportunity. So he found an escort service-possibly by phoning a buddy who didn't understand the nature of the engagement, possibly by means of a hasty and incautious attempt to use the Google. Perhaps he didn't use the right kind of escort servie. He engaged a person, possibly for "dinner and a show." Perhaps he asked for someone "classy." Arriving at the appointed meeting place, he discovered this very conventionally attractive person, dressed for a somewhat different kind of show. But, being a somewhat awkward person-he has after all been unsuccessful at getting another date and has decided that recourse to this particular escort is better than listening to Handel on his own-he decides to stick ( ... )

Coughing drives me nuts. Sometimes it seems like the Four Seasons Centre is hosting an outing by the local TB sanitorium.

I swear that on Wednesday they were at Roy Thompson, just for some variety, and perhaps because the opera wasn't happening.
