When I started the very liberal (I think that's the term they use now) counseling program at Oakland, I was introduced to a new abbreviation. This abbreviation seems to grow exponentially over time ( Read more... )

Sorry, not related to the entry although that is stupidly ridiculous, but are you upset with me? You signed off and I'm really really sorry if you were upset with me~~

I'm a little torn as to whether Two-Spirit and Transgendered should be separate. Maybe there's some difference that I'm missing, or maybe it's simply that Native Americans would throw a fit if they either lost their term or if non-Native Americans would fall under that category, but that in particular seems... redundant.

...and isn't "Queer" supposed to be the blanket term anyway? I mean, in literary criticism the blanket term is "Queer Theory."

Yeah, I've noticed the same process of "verbal mitosis" myself. I generally take the acronymous sequence du jour and tack "PZ" on the end, for our sadly underrepresented paedophiles and zoophiles.

Wait...are you seriously trying to incorporate having sex with little kids and animals into a pre-existing civil rights movement? Are you saying that you approve of all or none of the above?

They're eager to accept any deviants into their ranks, as long as they won't make them look bad.

Yeah, I think I'm going to take that anthro off of the art request list. It's kind of cute when sonicelectronic and her friends come up with those characters, but I don't think I want that representation of myself.

Hey, you forgot "A"- Ally. This denotes a straight person who supports the GLBT... community, such as myself. For all interrested, there's lots of terms because there's lots of distinct identities. To call someone non-straight would still be linking them to the straight community, which is unfair. It'd be like calling me non-Asian. It's just irrelevant, unless you're trying to compare me to Asian culture. I exist completely independent from Asian culture, so I'd like my own identity. What's really interresting is the bigotry that exists within the GLBT... community between identities. You'd think they'd all be more sensitive to hate, because of the prejudice they've all had to endure in coming out...

It's not unfair in the least, and you are, in fact, a non-Asian.

A better question: who exactly is excluded from this group, and why?

Ah, but that means that I don't have an identiy apart from the Asians, which I don't even have anything to do with. At least, that's the rationale behind the commotion. People excluded from this list seem to be straight people who only engage in heterosexual acts and do not respect "the community's" lifestyle. And celibate folks who don't respect "the community's" lifestyle. Also, there's a difference between identifying yourself as something, and your behavior(s). But, that's another topic.

Calling you a non-Asian in no way states that you don't have an identity apart from the Asians (indeed, how could someone not have an identity?), but simply says that Asian is not a part of your identity. If someone is actually saying this...well, I won't start that discussion, but it is certainly a communication symbol that they're trying to effect upon society rather than using the current social logic ( ... )
