Oh my god, this is so, so beautiful. I can't believe you've never been to the desert, because you capture it so perfectly, the feeling of emptiness and strangeness and sleeping under the stars, the way you never see a rattlesnake before you hear it. I am completely amazed how you spell out so much background with just one line, just one hint of what's happened before and how that's brought them here.

More like you inspire me to write desert fics ;) There's something about the idea of being alone... and finding life in unexpected places, that's just so appealing to me.

The research certainly paid off, you capture the feel of the desert beautifully. I love the atmosphere of this story, the way you capture them in this moment in time, without giving too much away. The way you tell an entire story in one line, one look, one bit of dialogue. So awesome. :)
