You know that moment when you get a comment on an old fic? So you go to thank them and end up accidentally reading a line or two of said fic because, well, it's old, and maybe you have fond memories of writing it? And then the line or two turns into reading all of said fic, and then you go to hit the kudos button because omg, who wrote this? The ( Read more... )

You know, I felt really fandom-old the other day when I ran across a fic in a newer fandom by somebody I recognized from back in the SG-1 eGroups listserve days. I remembered some conversation thread about her going to her grandparents before going to her first con or something... funny the things (and people!) that stick. :)

What? Stop writing? There has been very little writing as of late.

No, but there has definitely been a stylistic change. Or else it was just easier before because I was less focused on the words maybe.

Setting aside the question of writing lately, I don't think there's been *that* big a stylistic change? I mean - for example, you wrote some Longmire fic which was first person with a particular style based on the books but within that structure you still write lovely, lyrical prose that connects with setting in ways that I've been trying to dissect and figure out for years.

I may argue this further with you elsewhere so as not to embarrass myself by gushing too much in public. ;)

Okay, I'll give you that one. :) We can agree to refer to that Neil Gaiman quote about the parts that we find boring to write are sometimes the parts that resonate with other people? That sums up a lot of writing pretty well. ;p
