This is awesome! Oh, how are you scanning your old photos? I've been wanting to do that too but the thought of actually taking the time to scan everything is too daunting so I've been looking up services that will do it for you...

I scan the photos with an Epson photo scanner, and yeah it's a giant, time-consuming pain. The photos, for the most part, can't be removed from the album pages they are on ... so after the scans, they have to be cropped and separated back into individual photos. Most of them need some clean-up (in fact, I'm noticing the Yellowstone photos used for this story need still more clean-up than I did at first ( ... )

Notes from the Future:

I loved that rented Ford Explorer so much I went and bought one a year later, and loved driving (and hauling stuff in) it for the next decade+.

My visit to Deadwood during the dead daytime was a few years before the HBO television series of the same name became my favorite TV show of all time. I would certainly have made sure to visit it on a lively night if that show had debuted a little earlier. Oh well.

Isaac tells me today that Beautiful Rushmore Cave is closed for the season. Too bad. But yeah, it's always a good 30 degrees colder in those caves than the air temperature at the surface. And it's gotta be cold in South Dakota right about now. He's gonna check if any of the other caves in the area are still open. There's a lot of them!
