i wrote a paper on hammett last year but i never got around to actually reading the maltese falcon, though i checked it out from the library and it sat on my windowsill for a good few months. good luck with your stuff!

thanks jen, i think it's actually one of my better papers (or at least i hope, seeing as it's like 30% of my grade and i spent like 9 hours on it!!!!!!!!)
