Has spoken word jumped the shark?

You have to wonder when it's getting CP coverage.

Or, as I noted to P, perhaps it has simply vaulted loftily o'er yon cartilaginous rogue.

Or, more accurately, I think it has:

flown sky high /
high /
why so high /
putting to disgrace /
this face /
the grey race /
swimming faster than a snail's pace /
the fish /
a wish /
to fly?

I've realized lately that the only performance work I can really tolerate in large doses is satire -- the rest of it, with a single exception*, I find highly, highly "meh."

The thing is ... I came up with this post in exactly as many seconds as it took me to type it. The truth about writing, like art, is that one needs to know when to stop. And, more importantly, when not to start in the first place. :-)

* sample:

you make mirrors
want to grind themselves
back down into sand
because they can’t do your reflection justice

Truly! A friend in art school, looking at something I was working on, said, "it takes two people to create a masterpiece- one to make it, and one to shoot the artist before they go too far and ruin it."

And then she went on to say it was time to shoot me.

My usual beef with spoken word is not so much the content (though it can often be cringetastic) but the CAdence it DRIIIVES me UP the WALLLL...

I still thing your stream o' consciousness is really good, satire or not. :-)
